Our
History:
Hispanic leaders and representatives of the greater Orange County community
joined forces to establish HEEF, formally
launching the campaign in January 1994 with the goal of raising $1 million
within five years. In 1998, HEEF celebrated
the attainment of its $1 million goal. As of December 31, 2002, HEEF’s
endowment stands at $1.7 million.
An exciting and unprecedented initiative for Orange County, HEEF
now represents a broad base of participation - from educators to business
leaders, and individual donors to the largest companies in the county
and it is governed by volunteers serving on a eighteen member Executive
Committee.
HEEF has established an umbrella structure,
bringing together similar smaller funds, resulting in a unique structure
that allows donors to designate their contributions to specific scholarship
funds. These include: Architecture & Engineering, Arts, Association
of Hispanic Professionals for Education, Chapman University, Eisner
Foundation, Friends of University of California at Irvine, Future Leaders
of America, Healthcare Education, Hispanic Bar Association of Orange
County/Wally Davis Legal Memorial, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Orange
County, Hispanic Council of Realtors, The Luévano Foundation,
MANA (Mexican American National Women’s Association of Orange
County), The Mike Carona Foundation, Richard Bermudez/California State
University Fullerton Scholarship, Sage Hill School Scholarship, Soka
University, University of Southern California Mexican American Alumni
Association Scholarship Fund and Vanguard University.
